Hospitals

Dialysis Systems Management is a dialysis company that has been providing dialysis services in the acute setting since 2007. The partners of DSM have combined experience of 72 years in health care with 50 years of this experience specifically in renal services. The primary operations of DSM are in Keizer, Oregon.

Flexibility:

DSM is a small dialysis company, which is one of our primary advantages for the hospitals we partner with for the following reasons:

§ All DSM partners take an active role in being involved in operations, collaborating with hospital leadership, and the multi-disciplinary team.

§ We can customize our services to best meet the needs of the hospital, physicians, and patients.

§ We have minimal overhead costs compared to other companies which allows for flexibility to best meet our commitments.

Consistent Staffing:

We only hire experienced local dialysis Nurses and Technicians who are specifically dedicated to an individual hospital. This allows the opportunity for our staff to develop relationships with the hospital team and physicians which creates the ability to collaborate in quality improvement activities. DSM has never used agency staffing in their years of providing Acute Dialysis Services. Our lower overhead structure allows DSM to commit additional resources to staff training, education, and benefits which provides for a low turnover rate.

Quality:

Patient safety is our number one priority. We accomplish this by participating and being involved with client hospital committees related to staff education, infection prevention, corporate quality assurance, vascular access, and upgrades related to the EMR. We utilize clinical best practices and incorporate standards of care that ensure the best possible outcomes. We support our patients by providing the appropriate patient education related to their diagnosis and assist in their transition as part of the discharge process. DSM will modify its policy and procedures to ensure they reflect the hospitals standard of care. Our programs have received favorable recognition in multiple regulatory and hospital surveys for providing exceptional service.

Cost of Care:

We recognize that the hospital must focus on the total cost of care provided. We believe our rates will reduce your current costs. However, more significant cost savings occur when changes are made to the way care is delivered to patients. We have worked with our hospitals on ways to transition the patients to the outpatient setting in a timelier manner as well as made recommendations for lower-cost alternatives for inpatient renal services.

LOWER COSTS:

DSM has a flat organizational structure with low overhead costs. Simply put, DSM can deliver quality services for a lower cost by the leadership being engaged at the partner facilities. DSM affords client hospitals the ability to change quickly and acclimate to new needs. Below are several examples of how our team has worked with client hospitals to lower costs:
● Assisted the hospital in transitioning SLED from CRRT generating significant savings for the hospital.
● Improved communication/patient transportation with hospital to decrease excess charges in wait times and non-routine fees.
● Coordinate with the hospital on discharge planning for new ESRD patients to decrease length of stay.
The belief with DSM is pricing needs to be fair for all concerned in a partnership between hospital and vendor. DSM has eliminated many of the “Add On / Additional Charges” per treatment often seen with other large dialysis providers making our invoice very transparent.

QUALITY:

DSM has an extensive quality management program that is integrated with the hospital. Since Dialysis Systems Management, Inc. began operations in 2007, no client hospitals have ever had any deficiency or recommendations during surveys from The Joint Commission, CMS, or Department of Health Services. In several surveys by The Joint Commission, our dialysis programs were recognized for being outstanding and best practice. In one case, the surveyor recognized DSM as a top performer in comparison with other hospitals surveyed throughout the country.

PATIENT EXPERIENCE:

Part of the staff education program includes training in the patient experience. Hospitals receive the patient satisfaction surveys, the data is then reported back to DSM. Below are just a few examples recently received. “Especially happy that dialysis was given before midnight at the time of admission, normally that would not happen when admitted to another local hospital.” “Hospital staff were fantastic along with the dialysis care by, Shannon, Corey, Sarah” “I wish my dialysis could be at the hospital and not my clinic because I feel safe”
